Key West

In June, my husband and I drove down to Key West, along the Florida backroads to Homestead, visiting my favorite winery (Schnebly's) and having a quick snack. Then onward, along the 7-mile bridge, and stopping in Big Pine Key to visit the key deer at No Name Pub. We made it to our resort (The Galleon) just in time to see a beautiful sunset from the Tiki Bar.

The next day we were off to revisit some of our favorite places and finding some new ones. Here's a list of our faves:

Breakfast

Pepe's - Pepe's opened it doors in 1909, making it the oldest eating-house in the Florida Keys. It was, and still is, a favorite of presidents and locals alike.

Two Friend's Patio - Two Friend's is a sister restaurant of Pepe's and is good for breakfast, lunch, and of course, happy hour. They make great Pina Coladas.

Ram's Head - Ram's Head has large portions and you can eat with the chickens under a canopy of trees.

Blue Heaven - A Michelin-star contender and a funky place to eat under mango trees and other foliage.....again with chickens.

Lunch/Dinner

Schooner's Wharf - Schooner's actually opens at 8:00 AM and boasts that is has the earliest happy hour in Key West. Lunch and dinner offers large portions and has a small stage with great entertainment.

Conch Republic - The Conch serves the iconic Royal Reds. Situated right along the boardwalk of Key West's Historic Seaport, you can watch the fishing boats come in and the sunset cruise boats go out.

Libations

Bali Bar - A small little oasis behind the Key West Hotel.

Half Shell Raw Bar - The food is also good.

Sloppy Joe's - Iconic, with good entertainment.

Capt. Tony's Saloon - The original location of Sloppy Joe's.

Green Parrott - Another iconic bar.

Chart Room - A new place that was recommended to us. A very small bar located inside The Pier Hotel. A favorite hangout of Kenny Chesney.

We enjoyed our week's stay in Key West and can't wait to go back again. Hope you take some of my suggestions when you go there. Sorry no foodie picks this trip....too busy enjoying ourselves.
